Flickr Favs-Spooky Edition [Oct]

Spooky...especially the hedgehog, so scary! :) I love 'scary' photography though, so dark and mysterious and fantastical (word?)...anyway, I love creepy looking stuff.
Happy Halloween everyone!
Apparently, if I were to turn into a vampire tonight, my name would be...
The Great Archives determine you to have gone by the identity:
High Priestess of The Cold Wastes
Known in some parts of the world as: Succubus of The Ghast
The Great Archives Record: Of ghastly appearance, gaunt and white and gothic.
Or if I wanted to be a fairy I could be...
Your fairy is called Bracken Elfwitch
She is a cheerful sprite. She lives where bracken and curling ferns grow. She is only seen in the enchanted moment between sleep and waking.
She dresses in leafy bracken-green. She has delicate green wings like a cicada.
Hmm. There you have it. [Oddly, when I entered my sister's name-Daphné- to be a vampire, her name came out as Guinevere, which is a variation of my name, Geneviève! Weird.]

Well I'm off to decorate my porch, hopefully some little vampires and fairies will visit me tonight instead!

Introducing...

Our new kitten, our first baby...well, 2nd I suppose (Poor Pierre, sniff sniff) Anyway, we aren't 100% sure on a name yet, we're leaning towards Yoshimi (of Flaming Lips fame), we'd call her Sheemee for short. I also like Uma, she looks like an Uma to me, so maybe she'll have 2 names, since Dan isn't too fond of it. Dan loves her, he's the reason we got her in the first place, I would much prefer a puppy (or baby), but for now, she's ours and we love her :)

We also had our Spooky dinner this weekend, and let me just say that I cannot imagine what it was like to be a wife in the 50s or 60s, to be expected to cook a full out meal like that everyday (or at least a few times a week!) It was sooo much work, so many things to do at once, so much preparation...we were cooking from 12-7pm straight almost. It was delicious though, mmm turkey, sweet potatoes, peas, stuffing and molasses spice cake, delish :)

We also made hot apple cider, the very definition of Fall. I loved it. Kind of a last celebration before the end of this week, and the end of October (which pretty much marks the end of Fall, November around here is mostly gray, cold and dark, the beginning of the long winter...oh sigh.)

I'm back into watching LOST, I saw a trailer for Season 5 and I got chills, I really did, so now I'm watching Season 4, I might go backwards and watch Season 3, then 2 and 1...that should hold me over until it starts again and I can begin obsessing.

I am totally lusting after this kit right now. Maybe a Christmas present to myself? Yeah, I wish.

Well off to see our kitty baby, night all, hopefully I'll have some scrappies to show this week.

This weekend I will...

-create new blog banners/icons for myself, 'cause i need to add some zing to my blog!
-re-paint my nails with black nail polish, or learn to accept chipped black nail polish
-attempt to get my hair cut and dyed
-wear my old lady hat all day and night

-get some fall pics printed and scrap a few pages/do a mini book
-download "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" and watch it 8 times in 2 days; go 'awww' alot; wish i were a kid in the 50s
-make a spooky dinner with Heather
-buy all the fixin's for treat bags for the kiddies
-clean and do laundry
-hopefully get out and take some more pics like this:

and this:

This weekend I will not...

-waste my morning sleeping in too late (a little late, but not too late)
-waste my afternoon watching TV (should be easy with no cable)
-waste my evening surfing the net
-stay indoors all day
-spend too much money
-get bored and look forward to Christmas instead of focusing on Halloween's goodness
-avoid my camera or my scrap desk

This weekend I may possibly...

-drive an hour outside of the city to pick up a robin's egg blue typewriter for 10$
-swoon over pretty prints on Etsy
-wear a summer skirt with winter boots

*I want to [re]paint my kitchen tomato red. Or brown.

**I read history in my spare time. Currently reading about Ireland from the Fall of Rome to Medieval times. It rocks.

***I don't understand why every girl with a computer and some material/paint/buttons/ clothes/cute salt and pepper shakers thinks she can open an Etsy shop and charge ridiculous prices. But I vent.

****Autumn is over in a week and I am dreading the end of the beautiful Fall. I am so sad to see it go, but am looking forward to Christmas already (read: Christmas, not snow or winter or cold.)

Must go highlight now. Happy Weekend.

Effer (for a change)

I am a scrapping machine! (Getting 2 layouts done in a week qualifies me for being a machine....maybe it's because my cable and Internet went out a few days ago?) Anyway, I saw this lovely lady play the latest Effer Dare I thought to myself "I need to play!" I haven't done an Effer in a really love time, but this one seemed fun and easy to do, it was to scrap about your beauty routine (or in my case, lack of one), or about beauty in general:

Again, sorry for the terrible pic, I really really, REALLY need to get my photo stitch back, since I'm heading towards doing 12X12 layouts again (odd, I know) and taking pics of them at 10pm with the flash ain't workin' for me.

Anyway, pretty easy layout, I've had this vain self-portrait pic forever, and I never really knew what to do with it, but I liked it and wanted to use it, so I knew it would fit for the Dare (it's obvious I'm not wearing make-up as well, ha...hello shiny forehead!). I hand-made the title letters with woodgrain contact paper and used a really old sheet of SLAB paper (that's right, slab!), so I'm very happy about that. 3 scraps, 3 die cuts, 3 flowers, 1 little lady, 3 rub-ons and and 4 brads later, there she be. Journaling's below, basically talking about how I try to wear make-up but never seem to be able to be "one of those girls". I wish I could be, I know it would be better to be one, since I could definitely use the help, but I just can't seem to get my lazy butt in gear when it comes to make-up.

I made her a skirt :)

Peace!

Mi abuela y yo

My latest layout...I made it for my friend Jelena, who I met while on exchange in Spain and who I miss dearly, even today. We still talk and send emails, and I'm *hoping* to be able to go visit her in Italy next year where she lives...she sent me a letter last week and I knew I had to create something for her to send back (by email of course.) I've had this picture of us for a long long time and I'm glad I finally scrapped it. Used lots of old stuff on this one, including some Chatterbox paper (remember them?), tag from Etsy, K&Co die cuts, some Hambly and other "junk". I like how it turned out.

(The 'abuela'-granny-nickname came while we were living in Spain together...we lived with 4 other people and they would always go out and party, but Jelena and I preferred to just stay home and drink tea and talk, not stay up late, not be as adventurous, etc, so the others said we were like the 'grannies' of the group...so now we call each other 'abuela'.)

I wish I could have done a layout for the Mojo Challenge this time (favourite Halloween show/movie), but I didn't get the pics I needed printed in time...oh well, next time I guess. Having fun scrapping at a leisurley pace, no pressure, no deadlines, no expectations from myself, no comparing to others, just scrapping for the joy of it.

Here's my latest 365, #200 to be exact:

New boots, so warm and fuzzy and comfy and green, I love them!

Out of 200 days, I have shots for about 125 of them, which isn't too bad I suppose, I went through a period where I barely took any pics but I'm starting to get back into it now, we'll see if I can get the number back up by the time I hit 300 this winter...it's still incredible (and ridiculous) to me that I have 125 pictures of myself from this year, but it'll be fun to load them all into an album next spring and look back. Fun project, I'm glad I did it :)

This weekend was all about spooky. On Friday we watched Blair Witch and on Saturday Heather and I went out for a spooky photography project (post on that later), then we came home and watched The Ring. This week: carving pumpkins and preparing for a spooky dinner! Love it...although I must say that the Christmas bug is already starting to bite me, I think I will look forward to that as much as Halloween this year for some reason...

It's freakin' COLD here. Like, need my mitts and hat cold. Winter is at our doorstep and although I love the first few snowfalls and frosty nights, I know what's coming and as a whole I'm not looking forward to it. But that's Canada, gotta take the bad with the (mostly) good.

That's all for now, more later, ciao all!

Just curious...

For all the moms out there who may stumble on my blog, I added a poll in my sidebar (about halfway down), about how long it took you to get pregnant with your FIRST child. I emphasize "first" because it seems like the first one is always the hardest, the second, third, etc seem to follow much more easily.

From what I've been hearing for lots of people and seeing online, the answer seems to always be in YEARS and not months, and you know what? That friggin' SUCKS, no one ever told me this when I was younger, if I had of known I would have been trying much sooner than I have been, which has been way too freakin' long already...but I vent. Gotta get personal sometimes I guess.

Thanks for voting if you do!

For Daf...

Made this layout last night while I was waiting for the debate to come on...my sister is so crazy in love with her cat it's not even funny, even on her wedding day she insisted on having her picture taken with him! He is a pretty cool cat though, laid back and chill, just like her. The layout, luckily, came together pretty well, mostly because the background Cherry Arte paper matched the pic exactly. I'm resigned to the fact that my style is definitely similar in all the layouts I do, but I've also decided not to fight it, if it's what I like to do, then so be it.

Fav saying: "Ooooh Kitty."

(Title taken directly from her caption on Facebook for this picture.)

Cutest little fruit foam stickers I got forever ago.

Also, the day has finally arrived...I got my glasses! I've decided to switch over because my contacts have been killing my eyes lately, my eyes are always really really bloodshot (people say I look like I'm smoking something which trust me I'm not), so I need to give them a rest. I got 2 pairs, they have pretty much the same shape, but one set has metal frames and are thinner, the others are plastic and thicker (nerdier?) These ones are the thicker ones, I love them.

Tonight Heather and I are going to get some more craft supplies for our weekly Halloween Spooktacular activity (this week: Halloween wreath), and I'm also bringing my husband to get his hair cut, it's getting crazy long, and not in a good way. Mine too. Chop chop we go.

Ok, time to get back to the world of Reqs, filing, copyright issues and French proofreading, oh boy...

In my head...

"Homer, did you just call everyone chicken??"
"Nooo...I swear on this Bible."
"That's not a Bible, that's a book of carpet samples."
"Mmmm, fuzzy."

i love tress. it's something that i've noticed more and more lately, trees absolutely mesmerize me. all kinds, all seasons, but especially in fall, they draw me in and they make me quiet inside. i look at them and i'm just fascinated by their shape, colour, texture, how they grow and survive winter after winter, storm after storm, how they provide for us, and how they make the world a beautiful place. the silhouette of a bare tree against the dusk sky, the radiant glow of fall leaves when the sun is shining on them, the stark contrast of a rich brown bark agains the snow, they are sights that i never get tired of. i will stare at trees, photograph trees, search for trees and enjoy trees all my life.

[i'm not a tree hugger though.]

Ode to Autumn

Here's what I've been working on for the past week or so, I had so much fun making my "hand-made" Summer book a few months ago that I decided to do one for Fall, my most beloved of Seasons. Again, ripped out pages from the Fall Toast catalogue (the clothes are too expensive but they have beautiful photography, and great non-glossy paper to work with!), and used very little photos, just added bits and pieces and scraps and tried to get as much journaling in as possible.

[Journaling is probably the hardest thing for me, it's something I want to improve on, so this is good practice.]

I'm going back to "regular" scrapping now, I cleaned off my scrap desk and re-arranged some things, added some much needed light, so I'm hoping that it will make me sit down and get more layouts done. I was looking at the RV kit for October and it looks soo fun, I wish I could play with it! Unfortunately money is going to become a little tight in the next few months, so luxuries such as that must be put aside. Besides, I have plenty of scrap goodies to play with, I haven't even used everything from my kits I got in March and July!

Tonight is Heather and I's first night of Halloween fun. Last night we went and got all our supplies to have a crafty night (skulls and glitter, oh my), and we are going to watch the first in our series of scary/Halloween-ey movies, "Sleepy Hollow". I've never seen it but it's Johnny Depp and Tim Burton set in New England in the 1700 (1800?)s, how could I not like it?!

Our candy bucket has officially made an appearance in our house, which means it's Halloween time, and I love it. I bought some super creepy jelly cockroaches and spiders and rats for my windowsill, I'll post some pics of it when I get it all done, it's going to be spooky!

We are heading to McAdam this weekend to visit my brother in law and sister in law, and 2 little nephews, one of whom I've never met, so that's very exciting. I'm going to bring my camera and hope that the weather is nice so that we can take a walk (McAdam is in the middle of nowhere in the woods, but at this time of year that's a good thing), and I can snap some much needed Fall pics.

Well I suppose that's all, Happy Thursday everyone!
