PROJECT LIFE: Week 7

Week 7, here we go! Another regular week for us with errands, time with family, time at home, work...just LIFE. Not a ton of variety in the photos, but that's ok, the moments that are captured are special to us (and one thing I'm trying to do is to use the photos as jumping off points for journaling that's not necessarily related to the photo, so I'm getting more variety that way.)

I included a receipt from some car repairs this week, as well as a larger Instagram that I particularly loved (Dan and the kids in the bathroom), a journaling card to describe our non-existent Valentine's Day, and instead of doing a weekly review, I included my Tweets as an overlay on a photo (it's kind of hard to read, but that's ok, it was just to try something different).

Did I mention that I still love this project? :)

It's the Project Life show on this blog lately, so expect to see Week 8 and 9 soon!

PROJECT LIFE: Week 6

It might sound weird, but the thing I'm most impressed with about myself when it comes to this project is that I'm letting imperfections/flaws go. If you look up close this album is not perfect at all...things are crooked, the photos don't fit exactly right (trimmed too small, etc), there may be typos or ink smudges, the pictures are dark/light/poorly edited...but you know what, it doesn't really matter. I doubt in 10 years my kids will look back and notice those things, they'll be more interested in seeing that our den was a super bright and gaudy orange, or that they wore weird clothes, or that Daddy had a beard and Mama had long hair, or that we took photos called 'Instagrams' (the Polaroids of our generation I think)...that's what will matter. So I'm trying hard not to stress if things aren't ideal, just getting it done, getting it documented, is what matters the most.

For Week 6 I played around with combining paper/journaling with the photos, like in the triptych on the first page and on the second page where I printed a vertical shot, then did journaling on the other half of the photo. I also did a 'he/she' card on the first page (inspired by who else...Ali!), which I love (I also love how the kids are both smiling in the photos, it really shows how they look alike!) I included a quote about winter, my grocery list since I threw out the receipt by accident, a folded journaling card to tell a longer story, and that's about it!

The only thing that's really bugging me about this week? I wrote that something happened when really it didn't happen until the following week (the trouble with being a few weeks behind!)

Week 7 and 8 coming up!

PROJECT LIFE: Week 5

Week 5 was a really good week for us. We got a snow day (and Victor really played in it for the first time!), we visited family in Freddy, Violet was weighed, and we had lots of time at home. I experimented with creating collages again (the 3 cell phone shots of Victor in the snow), and got some old scrap goodies from my mom like the K&Co tag/embellies/journaling spots and random epoxy stickers (we're both trying to use up our old stuff, so this is the perfect place to do it!).

One month down, 11 to go :)

Back with Week 6, I'm on a roll now! :)

PROJECT LIFE: Week 4

Week 4: This is when I started to feel like I was getting into a good 'groove' of doing the layouts, both in terms of working on them throughout the week, and on what and how I included things.

I realize that these pages aren't super creative, or necessarily interesting to anyone other than me, but I am SO IN LOVE with how it's all coming together, imperfections and all. The more weeks that are added, the more of a 'big picture' is being formed and I can't wait until the end of the year and looking back through all of the layouts, it's going to be amazing and serves as more than enough inspiration to keep going (though I've never once had a 'I want to quit' feeling about this project, which is awesome!)

Alright, so this week I included a card that we got from our neighbours who we met this week (I trimmed it down a teeny bit and rounded the edges), and basically the rest is just pictures + words. Another Instagram collage (I love how they all kind of 'matched' this time around, and that I had room to include a quote), more journaling and random thoughts jotted on photos (used my white pen and really enjoy the look), and pictures from a few events from the week (it was definitely not a 'picture a day' week but I'm ok with that.)

Simple = done.

Back with Week 5, 6 and 7 very soon!

PROJECT LIFE: Week 3

Here we go, Week 3! I've had this done for a little while now (we're starting Week 7 tomorrow!) but I just never got around to taking pics of the layout (I'm more focused on actually finishing the layouts than taking pics of them afterwards! haha)

Nothing too spectacular or different about this week; I did more Instagram and regular photo collages, used digital elements on a photo (again, a freebie from Ali), writing on photos (something I really enjoy doing), the 'constants', and random bits and pieces. I also included a card that Dan's nan sent with a package for Violet (bottom left corner, it's vintage and so sweet!), the business card from the tattoo salon where Dan got his tattoo, as well as a hidden journaling card from the Project Life kit with a message to Dan about his tattoo that's meant only for him (I stuck an Instagram on the front). I had to include our "Weekly Review" on the Title card in the top corner, but that's ok, I think that I will get better at narrowing down my pictures as the weeks go on (and I'm sure that I'll have less photos as the weeks progress, since right now I'm still super enthusiastic about the project and am snapping quite a few, almost everyday).

Sorry for the crummy photos, the layouts are hard to photograph and are much cooler in real life!

I finished Week 4 and am just a few pics away from finishing Week 5, so I'm not too behind, which is good, I'm hoping to get them done this weekend so that I can start documenting and working on the week we're actually in (if that makes sense, haha).

Still loving this project!

I still need to do Violet's update, but who knows when that will happen :S

PROJECT LIFE: Week 2

Back to share Week 2! I am enjoying this project so much, I can't even say, I just reaaallllly hope I can keep it up.

This week I actually included my first extra insert (didn't take long!) I did Violet's 3-month 'official' photoshoot so I wanted to include shots from that as well as our weekly shots, so that meant inserting a 6X12 page protector to include 6 more 4X6 photos. I LOVE having different sized protectors throughout the album, so I will be doing it at least once a month I think.

Other things I did this week: Digital elements on a photo (the "love you" text was a freebie from Ali Edwards from awhile ago), a letter to Violet 'collage', writing to her about her photoshoot (created in PS), writing directly on the photos ('old school' scrapping, I tell ya!), labels and journaling spots on photos, a little 4X6 card with an instagram strip, and the 'constants' I mentioned last time (grocery receipt, iPhone weather shot, weekly review card).

I just finished up Week 3, so I'll post that soon, and I hope to have Week 4 done before the end of this week so that I'll be 'caught' up officially (I don't mind being a week behind but I don't want to be more than that or else my mind gets too foggy).

(PS-Didn't mean to do it, but this week's layout is ALL about Violet, haha, there's only one picture of Victor, none of me or Dan, and a few of inanimate objects...oh well, not going to stress, some weeks will have more going on for certain family members than others).
