Just another Manic Monday...

Today is kind of a special day, actually. It's Dan and I's (me's?) 6 year anniversary (of being together, not of being married.) We don't really have an actual anniversary per se, but this has always been the date we have celebrated since it was the day we went from 'just friends' to 'just a bit more', lol.

Anyway, so for fun I thought I'd post a few pics of us from the past 6 years and take a walk down memory lane. Want to join me?

Oh my, who are these 20 year old punks?! This was one of the very first weekends we spent together after we were officially a couple. We actually met a few months before, Dan was subletting my roommate's room for the summer while she was home and for some reason, I was there for a few months before heading home as well to work for the summer, and we started hanging out just as roommates (I wasn't home a lot, I think I was in Sussex looking for work), and anyway, we both thought the other was cute and well, it's not the most romantic thing in the world, but we were having some drinks one night and one thing led to another...yadda yadda yadda...and we've been together ever since. I went home for the summer but I rushed back to Fredericton every chance I got to see him, we were totally honeymooning all summer, we were young and in love :) Young being the operative word, my goodness Dan looks young!

One of my fav shots from that time, I love Dan's expression.

After that summer (03), I started my 3rd Year of University and Dan worked a crummy job (he was still deciding what to do with himself at that point.) He rented another apartment but was basically at my place all the time, and things went along smooth as can be. In July 2004 we got our own place and I stayed in Fredericton to work for the summer instead of going home. It was the first (and last) full year that we spent together until just last year. We had a pet rabbit named Pierre, and that Fall Dan started his 1st year of University for his Business degree. Again, smooth as can be, things were pretty serious and comfortable at that point already.

In Feb 2005 I went to Spain for 5 months on exchange for my last year of University. It was the hardest time for us by far, being apart for so long, but we MSN'ed every single day and made it through (it was much harder on Dan than for me, obviously, since I had a new country to distract me.) I had secretly decided in my head that if we made it through this that this would be the man that I would want to marry. I got back in June 05 and we were together again and it was wonderful. We started talking about marriage in December or so that year, and on March 27th, 2006, he proposed to me in the most un-perfect way, but it was us.

We didn't have a long engagement and we were actually separated again for most of it. I had become so tired of Fredericton that I had to get out of there, so in April of 06 I moved to Halifax; Dan was to join me that Fall. We got married on September 16th, 2006 at a beautiful little nursery in the country, and it was about as perfect as it could get.

About 3 weeks before the wedding Dan informed me that he was not planning on returning to University to finish his degree, and I was thrilled (my hatred for post secondary education shall remain saved for another post.) Anyway, so he worked the overnight shift at a warehouse all year and I worked as a Temp (and eventually started the job that I'm at now.) We were getting used to being married but basically it was the same as it had always been, better in fact. I loved being Mrs. Flynn. In the summer of 07 Dan went away (again) to plant trees and that Fall he started his Plumbing course in Springhill, which again meant more time separated. FINALLY in April of 08 he came back and started working, and we have decided that we are NEVER going to be separated again. I once counted the amount of time we've been apart and it equaled something to like 2 years...that's nuts! So no more. In June 08 we moved to our new flat (where we are now) and we're now planning the next stage in our life: (trying to) become parents.

So there you have it, a brief history of Dan and I. I've said it before but I'll say it again, Dan is my absolute balance in life; he's the opposite of me in so many ways but I need him and he needs me, together we are a whole. He's not the kind of guy that I thought I would marry when I was younger but he's absolutely better than anything I could have imagined. We've grown up together (from 20 year old punks to near 30 year old adults!) and I even though the time has flown, I can't wait to spend the next 6, 16 and 66 years together.

Happy Anniversary Babe!

Now for some random shots of us (mostly from the last couple of years...ah the joys of decent digital cameras):

May 2008

July 2008 I believe at the Irish Festival?

2006 I think? At the camp

Summer 07 at the beach

Back to scrappies and random rambles tomorrow!

Congrats Dan and Genevieve!!!! And whatever photo I look at - young or "older" - you look like a happy couple on every single one! I wish for you that it will always be that way (with hopefully one or two or three little G's and D's extra to cuddle)
